The sentiment of love

Emily Arnold had never thought of emotions; the sentiments which one comes across, when in love. Her career meant everything to her, things like love, marriage, children, a home,  never crossed her mind, She had an everyday routine life; get up in the morning, dress up, feed Bluebell, her dog, drive to office, work all day long, return home, have dinner, watch some television and finally go to bed. She would wake up again the next morning to find herself following the very same routine. Everyday seemed alike and passed in a blur.

One day, while travelling from home to her office, in the morning, her mind suddenly wandered and momentarily she lost hold of her mind, and ultimately the car’s steering wheel. Snapping back into consciousness, she hit the brakes and realized that she had hit a pedestrian. “Oh no!” she murmured. She got off the car to see who had been knocked down by her.

She saw a man sitting on the ground, crouched down and holding his knee. “Are you hurt?” she asked. He glanced up and was about to say something when suddenly his tongue started to stammer. “Emily Arnold” he exclaimed! “Oliver James” she said, a little louder than before. “I am extremely sorry, my mind had wandered elsewhere,” Emily remarked emphatically. “It’s fine, help me get up,” breathed Oliver. She pulled him up with a jerk and his facial expressions changed like those of pain. “Easy, easy” he muttered under his breath.

“Should I take you to the hospital?” questioned Emily. “No, I think I’m fine. The wound does not seem to be very bad” said Oliver, examining his bruise. They sat on a bench in a park which was right in front of the place where the accident had occurred. “Long time no see, how are you?” asked Oliver, still examining his bruise. “Are you in contact with any of our other class fellows?” “No, not really” replied Emily, “And what about you?” “Nah, not really. I’m much into work and all. Time is an asset, I tell you” remarked Oliver, making a face like something was crossing his mind. “What are you thinking?” inquired Emily, captivated. “About you” Oliver confessed and they sat on the bench for long hours, the birds chirping above, oblivious of their surroundings and the fact that both of them had to go to work. They sat, hands intertwined, looking into each other’s eyes till the sun had set.
